The More You Know Monday

Happy Monday!

Get over it, time to learn!

:)

There is a new addition to our little family. Yes, it is exactly what you are thinking...

I've adopted a word!!

Save the Words, a site run by the Oxford University Press, is making a move to save old and discarded words. Here is what they have to say:

Each year hundreds of words are dropped from the English language. Old words, wise words, hard-working words. Words that once led meaningful lives but now lie unused, unloved and unwanted. Today, 90% of everything we write is communicated by only 7,000 words. You can change all that. Help save the words!

There are literally hundreds to choose from. I spent a while picking out my little cutie. And since I am supposed to share and use her as much as possible, I thought it would be great for a More You Know Monday.

My adoptive word is:
Kexy
Meaning: Dry, brittle, withered

Need a good way to remember it?? Just think of 'Sexy or Kexy' as in 'Chic or Geek' (why will that always remind me of the Jenny Jones Show?!), 'Hot or Not', 'Classy or Trashy'.

Or take a look at my chart comparing things I find Kexy and Sexy.

Warning, very subjective!

Sources (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

Don't act like you aren't going to use it for the rest of the day! See how easy that was?! I saved a word.  So jump over to the website, and adopt your very own today.

Who knows, you could end up with a gem like Kexy. We are so lucky to have her :)

  1. Hahaha!! What a great post! Your blog introduces so many great and useful words. This one one very fun!!Also, wasn't Jenny Jones just the best?! "You don't know me, you just jealous!" Oh I loved her chat show!!

  2. Nice chart there, Texa! Awesome post -- not kexy at all ;) Interesting word. But anything that could describe Kesha in a negative light is of my taste. Boy has this friend who keeps texting him inappropriate stuff all the time and she looks EXACTLY like an even more white trash version of that chick. Gross.

  3. HAHAHAHAHA. First of all, every time I come on your site I laugh at your new header, I love your Finla man :o)

Second of all, kexy. Hmm I could put that into my daily language very easily. Your 'treating yourself like a queen' line made me smile. Can't wait to see what you roll out with next Monday :)

  4. This is incredibly ironic, because I was feeling awfully Kexy when I woke up today. Guess I'll have to do something about that.

  5. Hahah I refuse the stupid $$ in KESHA's name too. She is so stupid (and Kexy...but in my opinion...she was never really 'happenin').

    Things I find KEXY/SEXY:

    KEXY:

Super expensive designer bags. I mean, I lay my purse on toilet floors and in beer. Is it really necessary to own a $1000 purse?!

Eating Doritos as a meal. In this past week I have had a full bag of Cool Ranch, Sweet/Spicy Chili, and I am currently snacking on Taco ones. Over it (so speaks my thighs).

My job. Oh wait...I only have 3.5 days left ;-)

Shows about New Jersey. There is a reason I don't intentionally pass through your state and I really don't want to have to be exposed to it on TV either. Kidding. Jersey has good shopping and I CHOOSE to watch those shows most of the time.

    SEXY:

American girls moving to Scandinavia. Ok I know technically FINLAND is not considered Scandinavia...but for the purpose of what I am trying to say...I'm considering it to be Scandinavia.

Your big haired photo as a child you posted last week. Too much sexiness exuded in one photograph for sure. (you had me at BANGS)

The bottle of champagne sitting in my fridge. Besides two small things of orange juice, it is all that is left in there. Mimosas anyone?

The fact that I may or may not be making s'mores at lunch with a coworker (and a microwave). We will use Reeses instead of Chocolate. YUM.

Hope you have a great day!

  6. I thought I had a strong vocabulary, but I had never heard this one.

What a public service you are providing.

When I teach, I find I use a word and then (parenthetically) define it for the kids. I don't talk down to them, they need to learn!

  7. Haa I love it!! You know what else is Kexy? The fact that I'll be using your new adoptive word and NO ONE ELSE will know what the hell I'm talking about...it's gonna be Kexy!!!!

  10. Kexy, huh? I like it.

I was just telling one of my co-workers that I got a lecture from an 80 year old man in the copy room about feudalism and I said, "I learn something new every day". Then I stopped by your blog and learned ANOTHER new thing!

So sometimes ... you learn two new things! ;)

  11. Kesha is super Kexy. I can't stand that disaster of a human. That designer dog is creeping me out. What's wrong with it's fur?

@Megan - YES! So dumb, don't get it at all. Aw man, those are awesome!! I should have consulted you when coming up with the chart. And the first one of your Sexy list, LOVE IT! Hope you are having a great day too!
@Ellen - bringing Kexy back....why didn't I post that?!?!? haha. You are right, need to learn, I think that is a great thing!
@AN Irish - Haha, I think we could Kexy into a positive thing. Glad you like!

@Heather - haha, thanks. She is a sweetie, lol
@HW - don't act like you aren't going to use it all the time. And feudalism, very interesting, who would have thought you would have two useless things on Monday morning, haha, just kidding.
@Jordan - so nasty. And I know I have readers who are fans, but I just don't get it! Apparently that dog is super duper expensive. Who knows!

  18. You are too funny!!! What a good word. Kexy. Kexy. Kexy. They say if you use it three times in a day it becomes part of your vocab. So there you go, three times from me. :)

  19. OK Kexy is Kewl - nice word - like IT
I found a kexy atlantic salmon on the beach the other day. I guess the bald eagle dropped it and did not retreive it?

  20. I just like that you found a word that rhymes with sexy- well, I guess there's always "flex-y," "mexi", "texi) (can I call you texi?) Lexy, Dexy (as in Dexy's Midnight Runners, come on eileen), hexi, and "pecs-y" for someone really muscley.
Okay, I think I should go to bed because I'm getting weird and probably make no sense. Love the save the word feature though!

  21. Hahaha! I've been on a mission to save the letter 'x' from extinction with non-traditional uses (like 'thanx'), but a whole word????? And one I'd never heard of??? So cool!!

And in outback OZ, nearly EVERYTHING was kexy after the drought - but is kexy no more now that it's broken!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. The drought that is, not the outback ...

  23. OMG, you're amazing. This post was hilarious! I think we should all start using Kexy in everyday speak!

@oomph - haha, you are welcome. And thanks!
@Colin - you just made my day, love the word you picked!! Best one in the bunch, yes, better than Kexy. Sounding so educated already, haha
@Missy - too much! haha, oh my gosh, you are probably so right. If I see Kexy on a word verification now, I just might die, lol
@Kassi - yeah, spreading the Kexy love...but I mean that in a good way, lol
@SaucyKodz - glad you like! Ewwww, now that picture and smell is in my mind. But great usage, lol. You have a great day too!
@Meri - I would love to be Texi! haha. So many words, your brain is in overdrive :) Well thanks, meri!
@Red - Ohhh, that is a good mission too! Glad to hear that it is no longer kexy out there, but back to sexy, haha. Too funny! (I got it, lol)
@Meg O - it is working, it is working. We are saving the word! haha, thanks lady :)

  26. Love this!! I'm definitely bringing back some words. I'm trying to make the 'whatever' hand gesture come back, you know the one from Clueless, but it's not working. Time to move on.

  27. HA! This has to be one of the most awesome things EVER. I'm going to hop over and adopt my own word...although I'll be hard-pressed to find a word as good as "kexy." Nicely done ;)

    ReplyDelete
  28. You can adopt a word? That is pretty amazing, if you ask me. I wish I could own one.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Once again you are Ms. Educational. My head should explode soon from all the knowledge. *teasing* I could use the new word for my in laws. Is that wrong of me?
