Phil? Phil Connors?

Happy Groundhog Day! Come on Phil, don't be a jerk, get out of your burrow and tell us that winter will end. I think most of us are ready for spring.  Just remember, Phil, if that is your real name, you'd make a a cozy fur hat if there happened to be 6 more weeks of snow. Yeah, that's right, I bully animals into doing favors for me. Nah, we're good Phil, we're good.

UPDATE: Phil predicts an early spring!!! You live to see another day groundhog :)

I contemplated just quoting the legendary Bill Murray today, but for those of you who aren't fans of the movie Groundhog Day can promptly leave wouldn't enjoy it to its full extent. I'll somewhat spare you...for today.

"This is pitiful - 1,000 people freezing their butts off to worship a rat."

So, I have been looking over my posts in the last few months, and noticed that I rarely, if ever, show my love to the hubs' homeland: Canada. I rant and rave about Germany, profess my undying love for Texas, and Canada, like most of the time, gets forgotten.

What do Americans really know about Canada, anyways?? When I first met the hubs and spent the summer with him up north, my friends had about a million questions of what it was like 'up there'. "What do they eat?", "What currency do they use?", "Do they have a president?", "They have provinces?!?". The questions were endless, and it made me realize how clueless we are about Canada. It sounds silly, but most Americans, and especially us Texans, learn next to nothing about our friendly northern ally.

But I'll let you in on a little secret. Besides the occasional 'eh' or 'abooooot' and the freakin' frigid winters there is NO real difference between us and them. Yep, strip down the Mountie uniforms, their love of curling, and affinity for Kokanee beer, and you have an everyday American. Shocking, I know.

So, at the moment I am getting together information and coming up with a very special Canada Quiz for tomorrow's post. And I promise, it won't just be about hockey. So, study your little brains out tonight, eh, there is aboooot to be a test! See, see what I did there?!

And as for today, I'll share with you my little 'Moment of Zen' from our summers in Canada. Perched out in the sun on the back balcony, overlooking the North Saskatchewan River Valley (been going up there for 4 years now and still had to look up how to spell that one!) and loving every moment of my lazy, 19 hours of sunshine, days.

Maybe this will jump start the warm weather :)
