ZigZag Donnerstag

(Random Ass Thursday didn't have quite the same ring to it)

Here are some random things that have recently come to mind:
*I would love to start hosting a content-only (as in real stories, photos, etc) blog hop. I like blog hops, I really do. It's an easy way to find new and interesting blogs. It opens lots of doors in bloggyland. And no, for me it isn't about this whole 'following" mess. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, follow me if you want, forget me if not :)

But there are so many hops I have visited recently that are completely bombarded with non-content sites. I have nothing against these 'blogs' (really, can we call them that at this point?) that solely have advertisement after advertisement, and nothing more than giveaways, coupon and reviews. They can be very informative and helpful, if that is what you are looking for. But I think it is time to have a Storytellers Blog Hop. With only one rule: you must have more stories, photos, what I would consider real content, than giveaways and reviews. What do you say, blog writers?? Would you participate?? Maybe one on the first of the month?
I'm thinking...

Or is that too corny?

*Yet again, another gem from Yahoo! News. According to them, fanny packs are making a come back.

Yes! I knew I kept my neon green D.A.R.E. fanny pack for a reason. Think Michael Kors would approve of this one!?

*Just booked me a translating gig! I have been interested in doing this for some time now, trying my hand at it in private. But right now I am working on taking a local hotel's information in German and making it sound all nice and neat sounding in English. Sad, but I am really excited to do this. Hey, you never know, I could find a new calling in Deutschland!

*Had to rescue the baby goaty's life this week. Like the good goaty momma I am, I heard him crying outside. He was trapped in between two fence boards and was choking himself out. Poor thing, I really was so scared for him! But I managed to help squeeze him out rather easily. Every time he bleats at me now, I like to think it is a little goatie thank you.

Be careful out there baby goatie!
*And last, but certainly not least, I am sad to say that Len Lesser, better known as 'Uncle Leo' on Seinfeld, passed away yesterday. He delivers one of the funniest lines in Seinfeld history. One that my family likes to quote from time to time. Uncle Leo is knowingly stealing things from a store and is convinced no one will prosecute him because he is old. When he gets caught, he says, "I'm an old man. I'm confused! I thought I paid for it. What's my name? Will you take me home?"

Thanks for the laughs Unc-cle Leo!

  2. I agree - the blog hop would be wonderful! I open up about 10 blogs at a time and X through the giveaway "blogs" so that I can focus on the content based ones. You'd really speed up my mornings with this idea ;)

  3. I love the idea of a content only blog hop & would love to participate!! I think the name is perfect, a little cheese & little common sense, perfect:)!!!
Ps...I can't believe I know an actual goat hero!! Poor lil goatie!!

  4. I love this idea! I feel kind of embarrassed that you came to my site and saw one of two reviews I've done, though. I will only do ONE at a time, though, and I add ten actual story pieces for each review.

    But now I feel shy.

Any way, I'm game, if you'll accept my extremely moderate reviewish-ness.

  5. @Kristen - glad you are down for the idea too!
@KY - no kidding! I know those people's sites are important too, but it is just too much at times.
@Sherri - haha, yep the perfect amount of cheese and goodness. And yes, just a regular ol Goat Superman!

  6. @lovinangels - NO, no no, please don't think I am coming down on those sites at all. I get their purpose and I get why people do reviews. Just some sites have no content and all reposts or whatnot. Sorry if I offended!

  7. I'd totally be up for a content only blog hop. I LOVE the idea!

  8. Awwww, I love Uncle Leo! May his soul rest in peace. And the baby Goatie story is so cute, if I were in your position I would have freaked out because I have this thing that I might do something that would hurt it more and I get so scared!

  9. @Yotes - awesome, thanks!
@Apfel - I know right, I really was sad to hear that. And I have to admit, I was really scared to help that dumb, but cute animal. He wasn't the brightest, and now with blood loss to the brain, I am sure it didn't help! lol

  10. I updated my idea of content-only...does that help?

  11. I would love to join said blog hop! While I have daily photos of myself because of the 30 for 30 challenge, I prefer not to paste my face all up in 'ere. The original intent of my blog was/is to have a portfolio-in-the-making so I can get back into copywriting. Fashion is the subject of choice because I work for a fashion retailer. Sometimes I feel like I'm losing my blogging purpose by focusing too much on clothes and not enough on words.

Okay, your idea is more to get away from blog hops for the sole purpose of gaining followers and doing reviews and giveaways, but I also view it as an opportunity to get real and write. As you can see, I have the gift of gab even in my comments!

Congrats on the translating gig! I wish I spoke a second language fluently (ya hear that mom and dad?). If you ever see a gig for translating pig latin, I'm applying! Those are pretty fancy fanny packs! Cute goat! We're planning to get Pygmy goats. Okay, I shall close this chapter of the comment novella.

  12. I like the blog hop idea!

  13. @Jen - haha, best comment ever! You get it. It doesn't necessarily have to be anything profound, just less of having to navigate through all the giveaway and coupon sites.
@Leetid - thanks so much, glad you do!

  14. I am all for the Storytellers Blog Hops. :D Count me in.

Thanks for visiting and commenting on my blog. Hope you'll come visit again next time.

Stopping by from Around the World... Also a day late! ;)

  16. You should really make your blog hop! I was getting really sick of all the usual coupon blogs.

And your goat is so cute, glad the little fella is ok! (I'm jealous, I dream of having a couple goats one day!)

I'm a new follower from Thirsty Thursday. Have a great day!

@Kassi - haha, we are both just late on the world traveling :)
@Jessi - I am getting such great feedback, thanks for stopping by. Thankfully we don't have much responsibility with the goats. Just saving them from time to time :)

  18. The hop is GREAT idea!!! And, yay for saving your goat!!

  19. I lost my first comment. Which was brilliant and hilarious by the way.

    Stupid laptop.

    Love the blog hop idea!!

I've only recently started spreading my blog around and as a result, people other than my friends who know me and love me even though I'm half nuts, come visit. It's been really fun to discover other blogs too! Although it distracts me from exercise which is a real drag. Yeah right.

    I'd be in for sure!
PS: You have a goat??!! Adorable. But I feel the need to send you some Purell ;-)

  20. I love that "story-telling blogapalooza" (I make up my own words!!) idea. I am a story teller at heart...basically that's what my blog is, of sorts. Of course I'd love to "be discovered" and have my blog rake in a million dollars...but reality is knocking at my front door! I just want people to find the funny, sincere and sometimes serious in my stories! The fanny-pack...totally crackin' me up. I live in a tourist area...fanny-packs run amuck!! And I LOVED Seinfeld...we used to all cram into the dorm room that had cable (yep...I'm getting older!!) to watch the new episode! We were sooo cool!!!

  21. I love the idea of a storytellers blog hop, I would be very interested! My blog may not be the most interesting, but it's pretty much all true stories from my life and family :) I do agree with you about the "non-content" blogs, not exactly what I expect when I click on a blog! I'm following from Thirsty Thursday Blog Hop. You can follow back at www.pickfamilynonsense.blogspot.com :)

  23. I love blog hops. That's how I met your blog page! I love to read and so I do skip those give-away pages. When it comes to my blog, I love to write little stories of my day to day stuff. Sometimes a sneak from my past and a little dream about the future. I think it is better to have a readable blog than just one that's full of advertisements. I love to look at photos too. But sometimes there are photos that have no essence that I also skip. Oh well... variety.

@Crystal - ummm, can I please use that name for the hop!?! I'll let you co-host, haha. Whatever, you know fannypacks have always been cool. And anyone else who is a friend of Seinfeld is a friend of mine :)
@Kristina - well then I will count you in for it! Thanks for stopping by, gotta go check out your site!
@wWhat's in a name - thanks for stopping by!
@Brownbugz - hey girl! And your variety is the best, your site is always a great read.
@Jackie D - I will bring it on! haha, thanks for stopping by

  26. Absolutely love the blog hop idea; hey, that's how I found you along with my other favorites.

Had to laugh when I put up a post the other day and, in it, ranted about the "follow backs", some that leave no appreciable comment besides, "follow me!" Well, the first comment was from someone chock full of coupons, gambling and assorted crapola... I doubt if she even read my post!

"Uncle Leo"..a great loss but so many funny memories!

    ReplyDelete
  27. OK
1)Uncle Leo died:( Sad!! My husband and I watch Seinfeld every night...
    2) Just say no to fanny packs..and you knowing Europe must know what fanny means over there..hahahah
    3) I would love a good content blog hop! I know coupon/review sites have their place, but I just don't have that place in my heart..ha. I will be following to see what you get started!
Thanks for stopping by my blog, looking forward to getting to know you better in blogging land!

    @b.lee - k, you are in too :)

  30. I think the Storytelling blog hop is a cute idea!! Those blogs that are really impersonal don't interest me... especially when they "visit" and comment on one of my blog posts and all they say is, "check out our blog at blah blah blah" without even reading the content in my post.... GEEEZZZ... ok, I'm not going to go on a rant about that...

Oh, and poor baby goatie... I thought it was hilarious that you stopped to document with a photo before you freed his poor little goatie head! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  31. @ Kandy - glad you are with me. And just to clarify, that was a picture from earlier in the year. Haha, I thought maybe someone would think that. His head was really, really caught, not like it is just poking in that picture. I was too scared to photograph!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks for the follow! I'm following you back. Yes, I would definitely prefer a blog hop without all the giveaways and coupons!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thank you for stopping by today High Heels and Hot Flashes. Love your comment

    ReplyDelete
  34. YES- Love that idea and would totally participate! Good looking out saving the goat as well...how sad if you found him dead that way:-(

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think that would be an awesome blog hop! I would love to participate. Your dead on about the advertising blogs overtaking the blog hops. My poor little netbook seizes and dies with all their glittery hi-jinks. Seriously I am not going to click on that stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Your blog hop sounds like a great idea! I know what you mean about content--I got a spam comment about eating bird nests today for health!

    I didn't know you had goats--how cute!

I wonder if there will be a rebranding of fanny packs--the name doesn't exactly scream high fashion :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I like the idea of a content blog hop. I like ones that are crafts and everything, but it's true, the ads/reviews only/coupon sites aren't exactly my kind of thing. Great idea.

  38. I'm not sure I've seen a advertising blog - I guess I'm just a noob. My blog is a content only blog, I'm assuming, right?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ok ya lost me at fanny pack!! Is that bad.. No cuz I saw a tourist in Chicago with a tie dyed one when I first moved here and nearly died. Priceless. But in all honesty a storytelling blog I'd be on it like pb&j

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yes, friend, our blog is different - in fact, more than a story teller and no ads. We talk realities of life.

We left you "follow" footprints in your blog. We are also inviting you to follow us and to join our sponsored blog hop. We like to see your comment, too.

    Thank you very much.
